KENT — The Kent State University football team will try to break into the win column in today’s home opener against Wofford at Dix Stadium. Kickoff is at noon.

The Golden Flashes lost their season opener at South Carolina 57-0 on Sept. 5. Wofford enters at 2-0 with wins over The Citadel and Gardner-Webb.

Wofford football team at a glance

Wofford is an FCS program that competes in the Southern Conference. The Terriers were in the NAIA as late as 1989.

The Terriers have won eight of their last nine games after opening the 2025 season with five straight losses. Eight of their 13 returning starters are on offense. The defense returns Eli Campbell, a preseason All-SoCon first team selection.

“They’re an exceptionally challenging opportunity for us,” Kent State head coach Mark Carney said. “This is a 2-0 football team coming here that’s very confident. They play great complementary football. They run the ball and play great defense. … They’re also incredibly disciplined in the way they play.

“It will be a great challenge going against a great opponent.”

Wofford is coming off a 17-13 win over Gardner-Webb. Ivory Aikens opened the game with a 97-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
